Unlike CAT, there is no single exam day. You take the test on the date and slot you booked, and you can come back for retakes. Here is how to use that flexibility.

Registration for the NMAT 2026 exam was extended twice, from October 10 to October 25 and then to October 31, so it closes today. Register and schedule at mba.com.

If you have not registered yet, do it now.

NMAT slot booking: book now, change later

Sources disagree on the last day for NMAT slot booking: one lists October 31 and another October 25, so confirm on the portal and book now rather than testing the edge. If you already booked, you can still move your slot. Rescheduling stays open until December 17, costs Rs 1,200 plus taxes, and must be requested at least 72 hours before your test. So your date is not locked, but your window is shrinking.

Three things should drive your date. First, place your first attempt early. With a 15-day gap between attempts, a test on November 2 allows a second attempt from November 17 and a third from December 2. To keep all three attempts possible before retake booking closes on December 17, your first attempt should land by about November 17. Second, keep clear of CAT on November 29, and leave at least a couple of days either side. Third, be honest about readiness. A no-show counts as an attempt, so do not book a date you will skip.

NMAT score report: what gets sent, and when

You see an unofficial score on screen when you finish. GMAC’s FAQ says the official score card follows within 48 hours, though an audit can take 5 to 7 working days. Another GMAC page says 72 hours, so plan around the longer window.

You do not send the NMAT score report yourself. GMAC sends your result to the schools you listed in your application form, and the registration fee covers five of them. Each extra school costs Rs 400 plus taxes.

Which attempt counts is up to each school. GMAC tells candidates to check each institution’s policy. Careers360 reports that NMIMS accepts only the first valid NMAT score, so if NMIMS is your priority, treat your first attempt as the one that counts and confirm on the NMIMS admissions page.

NMAT retake registration: dates, cost and when it makes sense

NMAT retake registration and retake slot booking run from November 3 to December 17 at mba.com. Each retake costs Rs 3,000 plus taxes. You get up to three attempts, including no-shows, with a mandatory 15-day gap between them per GMAC’s FAQ. One Careers360 article says seven days, so plan on 15.

Retake only when you can name what will change. If your score sits below the usual range for your target schools and you know the cause, such as one weak section or poor pacing, a retake can pay off. If you simply had an ordinary day and your mocks match your score, the fee and time may be better spent on applications.

The slots are limited and allocated first come, first served. Book your NMAT 2026 retake slot as soon as retake registration opens on November 3 to secure your preferred date, plan score reporting, and keep enough time for a retake before B-school admission deadlines close.

FIIB accepts NMAT scores for its PGDM only alongside a score from another AICTE-approved exam such as CAT, XAT, CMAT or MAT.

Shortlisting programs?
