9th Sustainability Summit at FIIB - Transforming MBA Students to Sustainable Future Leaders

The world (or much of it) is waking up. The commitments to keep our environment cleaner & greener are getting ahead; 'nature-conscious plans' are becoming 'environmental-friendly strategies' and the collective approaches are yielding results. Believing Sustainability as a core component of career success, FIIB, a unique and responsible business school that is measuring its carbon footprint, conducted the 9th edition of Sustainability Summit on Thursday, 21st February 2019. The theme of the summit was "The Choice of Sustainability - Is it the Game of a few?"

Ms. Radhika Shrivastava, Executive Director at FIIB delivered the welcome address and released the Sustainability closure report to shed light on the facts that are making FIIB a more sustainable institution. While addressing the audience, she said, "FIIB started its journey 25 years back with a simple philosophy - The purpose of education is to change lives, to make a difference, and leaving the world a much better place than you found it. In 2011, we started the journey of sustainability with some baby steps: introduced new courses, reduced the usage of plastic on-campus, and recycled leftovers. And, now we're actually making difference to lives." She shared FIIBs 5 years of sustainable achievements by giving insights on Academic, Operations and Community.

Founders Day 2019

A major highlight of the summit was the talks by our speakers, Ms. Aticka Chona (CEO, GreenKarma and Managing Director, Six Year Plan), Mr. Jaideep Gokhale (Director of Communications, Region South & South East Asia, Tetrapak), Dr. Suneeta Singh (Founder, Amrit Foundation), Ms. Swaralipi Maity (DGM, Solar Division, Sukhbir Agro Energy Ltd.), Dr. Kirti Sharma (Faculty at FIIB), Ms. Manjali Hoon Khosla (Co-founder, Care for Air), and Rishi Motwani (Student, FIIB), who collectively addressed the main theme in different ways. The students got the opportunity to assess what skills global businesses need from young leaders and how they can chart a path to get in there.

Key takeaways from our Speakers:
  • "We not only limit ourselves to provide sustainable resources to our global brands but also work hard to make women able enough to get the requisite skill-sets.", says Aticka Chona while speaking about what her organization - GreenKarma.
  • "We are helping our customers (B2B companies) to launch successful products that are sustainable for the business area as well as for our environment.", says Jaideep Gokhale on the topic 'How Tetrapak delivers sustainability'.
  • Dr. Suneeta Singh believes that 'every smile is beautiful'. She addressed the summit speaking on the issue, "Environmental sustainability is not just about water, air or land, but our social relationship plays a vital role in it too."
  • Ms. Manjali Hoon Khosla speaks about the choices we make in our daily lives, and ask students to help others in every possible way. Because every individual can make a difference.
  • "Everybody needs electricity. People are buying it at a cost of INR 9. Whereas, Renewable Energy costs around INR 4 to INR 4.5 per unit. It requires one-time investment and offers lifetime sustainable service.", says Swaralipi Maity at FIIB Sustainability Summit 2019.
Rishi Motwani detailed his internship project "Care for Air" and talked about the change in his behaviour, and how being sustainable in self is leaving a positive impact on his batchmates.
