Influential View From The Top Corporate session held at FIIB


With a view to share valuable industry-specific insights and motivate the budding business students, a View From The Top session was held at FIIB on Wednesday, November 21.

As part of its corporate guest lectures series, the recent VFTT session was addressed by Pavitra Singh, HR Director, PepsiCo who reflected upon her struggle, experiences and industry knowledge to influence and inspire the FIIB students.

The lecture delivered by Singh focussed on the critical challenges she faced while progressing in her career and aimed at boosting the morale of rising business students.

In an attempt to share the qualities and traits which makes a good professional, Singh shared her own meaningful personal thoughts and views that could help students transform into established business personalities.

While expressing the hurdles faced initially by her in her career, Singh discussed about accelerating as a hard-working professional. She stressed that is no substitute for hard work and no shortcuts to success and encouraged the students to engage in true hard-work and make the most of the present resources along with the relationships, bonds and networks built and maintained over the past years.

Commenting on her own takeaways and observations, she suggested that the students begin with a deep introspection to identify their strengths, expertise and weaknesses to enhance efficiency. While narrating her life journey, Singh asked students to progress with a clear-minded approach in life without any second thoughts in order to pursue career goals with sincerity.

Considering the career success paramount, Singh advised students to always make conscious decisions for self-satisfaction and no regrets. She asked the attendees to adopt a positive outlook towards life for perceiving challenges as opportunities that could prove to be the stepping stone. For the aspiring managers and leaders, if one doesn’t come across opportunities they should build it on their own.

“In order to be accomplished and progress effectively, students should avoid distractions and live in the moment while giving their best. They should perceive challenges positively as opportunities to sail through the desired career path. As learners students should not hold themselves back and aggressively indulge in experimental roles to be familiar with the nuances and be abreast of recent trends and changes in the industry,” said Pavitra Singh, HR Director, PepsiCo.

Highlighting the importance of failures, Singh asked students to experience and accept failures to learn and acknowledge the mistakes. Talking about the challenging positions she held while progressing through the different roles at various organisations to drive growth and success, she said that failures are central to success as it helps understanding where and how we lack in performing outstandingly.

Relating the dilemmas and confusions faced by MBA students with her experiences, she conveyed that it is highly imperative to think logically and smartly. Considering conscience the best guiding force, she said that the students should make decisions based upon their gut feeling and beliefs.

Speaking about her role as manager for a startup and exceeding employers expectations with help of hard work and determination, she explained the importance of constantly raising the bar for yourself and coming out of the comfort zone to explore potential and capabilities.

Pavitra Singh currently serves Director HR at PepsiCo. She has a rich and diverse experience of 16+ years and led large teams and multiple cross-functional groups across geographies.

She recently moved into a prominent position of leading Global Campus for PepsiCo based in India.

Prior to this, she was leading the Talent Acquisition for the Indian Region where she was responsible for strengthening PepsiCo’s EVP in a digital era and building a strong pipeline of future leaders.

Besides that, she also headed the entire gamut of Talent Management (performance management, leadership & development, culture and change management) & Diversity and Inclusion for India Region.

To name a few, Pavitra worked at some of the leading financial institutions and renowned organisations like American Express and Fair Isaac before joining PepsiCo in 2006. Very recently, she was recognized in the Women Ahead list of 2016 as one of Corporate India's fastest rising women leaders.
