Mentoring Orientation at FIIB: The foundation to an everlasting relationship

Traditionally, every year FIIB organises a mentoring session for the students so as to get along with their mentors beyond the confines of the institute. This year the mentorship session for the batch of 2018-20 was organised at Amarai Farms,Kapashera. The 180 students of the batch were evenly divided into 16 groups, each of which was mentored by a faculty. The following are the names of teams mentored by the respective faculty members:

S No. Faculty Name Team Name
1 Dr. Arun Sangwan Troupers
2 Dr. Asheesh Pandey Trojans
3 Dr. Avinash Shrivastava Terminators
4 Dr. Amiya Kumar Mohapatra Shooting Stars
5 Dr. Deepak Pandit Passion Pavers
6 Dr. Ekta Singhal Igniters

12 Dr. Vidya M Iyer Dynamite
13 Prof Arpan Anand Captivators
14 Prof. Kirti Sharma Breezers
15 Prof. Partha Pratim Saikia Blizzards
16 Prof. Prashant Verma Blaze Warriors

The mentors and mentees took no time in bonding with each other. While some teams were busy in setting their expectations of the mentors from the mentees and vice versa on priority, many others were happy connecting on a personal level. The event began with icebreaking activities and strategizing within the groups so as to have a clear plan for the activities and challenges for the day.

The minute-to-win-it challenge was the highlight for the day where every team was given a minute to complete a certain activity and the team to score most during those 60 seconds was the leader on the table. There were 15 activities planned for the day where the students were to be tested on their physical endurance, their grit and also their wit. The games were designed so as to encourage the students in team bonding as well as recognising the special talents and resources within the team. The ‘Captivators’ mentored by Prof Arpan Anand emerged the winner with the maximum points. The ‘Eliminators’ who were mentored by Dr. Sudhir Rana were the first runner up and the ‘Blaze Warriors’ mentored by Prof Prashant Verma came third from among the 16 competing teams.

This session was the commencement of an everlasting relation between the students and the faculty and the foundation for the bonds which will only get stronger with time. It was a great opportunity for the students to assess their career paths and under the guidance of their respective mentors and similarly the mentors had the chance to observe the students in a closer perspective
