Students visited to Bisleri plant at Ghaziabad, UP
November 27th and December 18th, 2015

The main objective of industrial visit was to give first hand industrial exposure to students as to how a brand like Bisleri carries out its manufacturing activities. This industrial visit was directed towards understanding about Bisleri’s manufacturing capabilities and infrastructural competencies.

Students with Professor Sharad Chaturvedi, visited the plant. A brand that pioneered the concept of mineral water, bottled with its distinct green label, Bisleri, today, is a household name. Powered by 18 owned plants, 33 co-packers, 13 franchisees and a wide distribution and retail network pan India, Bisleri is at the centre of the Aqua Green Revolution. Its headquarters are at Mumbai, India.

The manufacturing plant consisted of 3 units- Filtration of water, manufacturing of bottles and Filling and packaging of the same. It was indeed a learning experience and helped students to get insight of water and beverages industry. Known all over India as the brand that pioneered the concept of mineral water, bottled with its distinct green label, today Bisleri is a household name.It was started by “Signor Felice Bisleri” an Italian entrepreneur in the year 1965. It is the first company to start packaged drinking water in India and in 1967 it set up a plant in Mumbai. Parle bought over Bisleri in 1969.

Bisleri began the Aqua Green Revolution with an ambitious dream in mind; that of an India in which every person, irrespective of geographical barriers or economic limitations, has uninterrupted access to scientifically purified and fortified drinking water. It wants to be a dominant player in the market.

Bisleri continues to innovate constantly, urged by the goals of the Aqua Green Revolution to provide every Indian easy access to purified drinking water and to support initiatives that rejuvenate the Earth’s natural sources of pristine drinking water.

They have also made a special team, who work for duplicity and legally handles that matter.
At Bisleri, workers are working 24 hours in two shifts and in total there are 350 staffs.

Manufacturing of Bottles

The bottles used at Bisleri are manufactured at the Bisleri plant itself to avoid any possible contamination. Bisleri uses only Grade 1 PET bottles for its products. PET is safe for storing water and can be 100% recycled after use. The bottles are made using preforms, which go through a blowing process where the bottles attain the desired shapes and sizes. These bottles are then used for filling the purified water and are then mechanically sealed and packaged.

Bisleri as CSR Initiatives

Being the largest brand of mineral water in the country, they have always been extremely conscious of the nuisance PET bottles create, when not disposed properly. They have installed centers for recycling PET scrap at various places across the country. When it comes to PET disposal and recycling, they believe in going beyond the realms of their brand and accept plastic from all brands in the market. They endeavor to open more such centers every year, so that all Indians have access to recycling their plastic bottles and cleaning up after themselves. The PET bottles collected by them are crushed into fine PET flakes which are then used to create useful products like - Cloth fabric, Hand bags, Window blinds and other useful products.

Bisleri has taken up the cause of conserving every bit of this precious resource. Drip or a drop, they are saving it! 19 check dams have been constructed in Gujarat in association with the Gujarat Government under the Sardar Patel Public Private Partnership scheme. Bisleri facilities are equipped with rain water harvesting systems and they have harvested almost 10 billion liters of water (Certified by Samaj Nav Nirman, an NGO in Gujarat) in a year.

In Jayantilal Chauhan Educational & Research Trust initiated a project to construct chek dams in the state of Gujarat. This project was initiated in 2006, in association with the Gujarat Government under Sardar Patel Public Private Partnership scheme. 19 check dams have been constructed in Gujarat. Many lives were touched and benefitted by this project. It led to saving of 56,162 liters of water annually 600 wells and bore wells were recharged 960 hectares of land was irrigated. A total of 30,000 people and 45,000 animals were benefitted across 46 villages.

It is rightly said that “See & know’ is better than ‘read & learn’. Students have got real feel of company’s working after this visit. They got a chance to transfer their theoretical knowledge to practical implication. This will even help to understand subject matter clearly in future also.
