An insightful session on Digital Marketing with FIIB alumnus Mr. Rahul Puri

In a session on 15th September 2014, at the college campus with FIIB alumnus Mr. Rahul Puri (Class of 2008), MBA students learned about various career opportunities available in Digital Marketing. Mr. Puri who is currently working with Afaqs!, Delhi as Regional Business Manager, cleared basic fundamentals regarding Digital Marketing Industry, helping students pursuing MBA to opt for right profile in the industry.

Session started at the college with acquainting management students with Digital Marketing. In simple terms he explained, that “marketing strategies that get channelized with the help of electronic platforms like website, emails, smartphone apps, etc to engage with customer”.He also shared the basic components of Digital Marketing:

  • Social Media
  • B2B
  • Mobile Apps
  • New Media
Mr. Puri discussed how we are surrounded with digital marketing in our daily lives and in most of the cases we don’t realize it!

Mr. Puri also shared few amazing facts about digital industry which encouraged MBA students to look at it as a promising career option.He shared that by 2016 India will surpass the USA in terms of internet users contributing towards existing 30% growth rate of digital market.

Mr. Puri also helped students doing MBA to understand the basic difference between sales and marketing in digital marketing. With many management students not opting for sales role because of endless meetings and target pressure; Mr. Puri explained the sales profile in digital marketing convincing them to take sales profile in an optimistic way.

Students also got to know about various profiles they can opt for in Digital Marketing Industry after completing MBA from the college. Mr. Puri explained all the profile in detail to help students to take a wise decision. Following profiles are very much in demand in Digital Marketing:

  • Content Writing
Mr. Puri also suggested the management students of the college, few ways to reach great heights in a professional career:

  • It is very important to realize your own worth. One should always plan what they deserve rather than what one gets
  • Before sitting for any interview it is very important to have some basic information of company in the terms of turnover, its leaders, industry, etc
  • He urged students to take CIP very seriously. He suggested students of MBA to choose company or industry where they want to learn and grow in future
  • He suggested attending guest lectures quite seriously and focusing on its takeaways, as it the best way to know about the industry directly from its leaders
  • He also focused on networking. He suggested identifying and connecting with people working in the organization of their interest.
Students were amazed when Mr. Puri offered books on basics of Digital Marketing to all the participants. After detailed Q & A session, Mr. Puri shared few of his college memories. Overall, session turned out to be an enlightening one for MBA students who wish to see themselves growing in Digital Market Industry.
