Financial Innovation in Indian Banking Sector

Fortune Institute of International Business (FIIB) had an enriching and insightful Finance Conclave on 12th December, 2015 at its campus with the theme, “Financial Innovation in Indian Banking Sector".

The conclave addressed the key innovations happening in the Indian banking sector in recent past like granting of licenses to Payment Banks and Small Banks by RBI, Technology Innovations in Indian banks, Cross selling of Financial Products by banks to name a few. Speakers deliberated upon issues like steps to be taken to redefine banking in India by targeting India’s migrant labourers, low-income households and small businesses and banks facing the issue of additional capital requirements for their growth. The Keynote address was given by Mr. Biswa K. Das, General Manager, SBI followed by a panel discussion.

Mr. Das, rightly set the tone of the conclave by touching upon the themes to be discussed in the panel discussion.  He talked about technological innovations happening in Indian banking sector, issues faced by banks in terms of NPAs and how to handle them, granting of licenses to payment banks and small banks by RBI and cross selling of banking products.

The panel discussions carried out by eminent industry speakers from corporate sector like Mr. Mithlesh Kumar, Allahabad Bank, Dr. P. Satish, Executive Director, Sa-Dhan, Mr. Vimal Ojha, Sr. Vice President and Head- North India, Karvy Private Wealth and Mr. Hemant Seigell, Director,Riskpro India Ventures (P) Ltd. The conclave helped students in enhancing their knowledge about the banking sector. It gave them an opportunity to know about recent changes in the banking industry and some of the issues and challenges faced by it. The conclave ended with the Q&A sessions by students.
