Samavesh– A Unique Beyond-the-Classroom Management Lesson for FIIB-ians
03 March 2014

Fortune Institute of International Business (FIIB) hosts a 2-day inter-college fest every year wherein students from several institutes from across the city participate in over 20 competitive activities to prove their mettle.

Samavesh- the fest aims to provide a platform to the students to plan and organize a large scale event and put their management knowledge to practice.

Samavesh 2014 was celebrated on 1st and 2nd of March 2014 at the FIIB Campus where numerous ingenious events, cutting edge contests and fun-packed activities were planned to explore innovative ideas for a clean, green and sustainable future.

The Objective

Samavesh aims at encouraging participants and spectators to strive on ideas for sustainability through emulating, absorbing and influencing. FIIB aspires to act as a bigger platform for every young innovator who dreams to dazzle the world with innovative ideas linking sustainability and management and dares to take the next step. Through Samavesh, the Institute is set to showcase the philosophy of sustainable applications in not just commercial businesses but in almost every facet of life.

The Blood Donation Camp- A step towards the Social Responsibility

Students organized a day long blood donation camp during Samavesh 2014 on 18th February 2014 in association with Lion’s International Club. The camp received participation from students, faculty members, staff and FIIB- alumni; who came together to contribute for the larger sake for the society.

Samavesh- The annual cultural extravaganza

Day 1 of Samavesh saw a series of stimulating, inciting contests & creative events ranging from Counter Strike, Table Tennis, Chess and Poker competitions to Street Theater, Solo and Group dance competitions. “The audience is very encouraging and supportive. We thoroughly enjoyed presenting our play here and hope to come back year after year” commented a member of the nukkad natak team of Jesus and Mary College who presented a satirical and eye opening play on rape.

Each competition had a jury panel including FIIB Alumni, faculty and Industry representatives to give fair judgment. Intense competitive spirit was displayed at each competition and winners were awarded prizes worth over Rs. 1.5 Lakhs (For the list of Winners, please click here).

Samavesh- A learning experience that no classroom can teach

Samavesh is facilitated by FIIB with only one objective- To provide its students with an opportunity to learn and practice management in a simulation environment that cannot be replicated in a classroom. Students are given restricted resources and with guidance from their mentors, students are expected to pull off the event by their own. Students at FIIB manage everything about Samavesh- from everyday routine administrative affairs to coordinating with the judges, from launching a website for the event to inviting other college students. The students left no stone unturned and were able to bring a large audience for Samavesh 2014 from colleges across the city.

“Sitting through the Digital Marketing lectures helped me understand the best practices of social media marketing and we implemented those learnings to market Samavesh through Facebook and other popular social media channels. The course on strategy helped my team members to plan and execute better while the course on Data analysis facilitated easy analysis of the large pool of data we gathered for sponsors and partnership!” exclaimed Ariba Hussain, 2nd year student at FIIB, who not only heads the FIIB Cultural Committee but also spearheaded the entire event.

At the time of collecting his volunteer certificate, Sangam Lal Sivaraju, 2nd Year student at FIIB recollected “As I led the Website development team as well as Registration team, I learnt team management skills, the nuances of prioritizing tasks, and ability to coordinate with the various stakeholders. I learnt so much about my hidden abilities that I have emerged as a more confident individual.”
